TiO2 will remain acceptable for use in Pharmaceuticals in the EU!!!
The EU Commission has published a COMMISSION STAFF WORKING DOCUMENT on TiO2 in Medicinal Products. The outcome is that TiO2 will remain acceptable for Medicinal Uses!!! This is really big news!! Here is the link to the full document from the EU Commission. You can download a PDF of the document there as well.
You can also access the EMA April 2024 report to the EU Commission on what impact a ban on TiO2 in drugs would have at the following link:
2024-04-01-Final feedback on Impact of removal of TiO2 - Final to be sent to the EC
This outcome will go a long way to resolve some of the uncertainty that many pharma companies currently have in their drug development plans where they are evaluating both TiO2 and TiO2-Free formulations even when they know that the TiO2 containing formulations will be far superior. They can now stick with the high quality TiO2 containing coatings and capsules rather than settle for a second-class drug product.
Please get the word out on this major development to your colleagues and out through your social media posts!! Hopefully, this development will also help thwart some of the nonsensical state bills in the U.S. trying to ban TiO2 or require warning labels when there is no science to support this. Hopefully, this outcome for drugs might also get the EU Commission to re-think their unjustified ban of TiO2 in foods so they could harmonize with the rest of the world whose regulators have all decided that TiO2 is also safe for food use.
