FDA's Regulation of Color Additives - A Great Summary Article
Here is a really great article which explains the FACTS regarding all the efforts that FDA puts in to make sure that all color additives (including the FD&C colors) are safe. This article provides a great summary of the history of the regulations and what is involved in the regulations which includes a very sound scientific review by FDA of all color additive petitions and their supporting data which is extensive.
I think this article needs to be sent to RFK Jr. and all the critics of FD&C colors to educate them on what really goes into an approval by FDA of a color additive petition and to get them to realize that all the FD&C colors went through this type of rigorous scientifically credible evaluation and have been continuously reviewed by FDA and all these reviews have always found the scientific evidence to show that these FD&C colors are safe for all the intended uses and use levels.
Please pass on this great article to anyone you know who may not really understand how the FDA evaluates the safety of color additives and doesn't realize why the FDA has considered the FD&C colors to be safe for so many years until last week when a politically compromised FDA Commissioner shamefully decided to ignore the facts and the science and recommend the removal of the FD&C colors from foods.
